Here’s a quick rundown of what we did for one of our clients, a men’s fashion brand and E-commerce store, in terms of SEO, with a step-by-step guide that shows you how you can do the same when writing blog posts.

Step 1: Identify your keyword(s)

The first thing we need to talk about is your keyword.

Your keyword is the word or phrase that makes your blog post searchable, and it ultimately connects web browsers to your site. Sometimes you might have multiple keywords, but the point is to have a clear focus about what you’re writing about, and what makes will make your post the most searchable.

Let's look at this blog that we wrote for our client.

It’s called “Black leather jacket & brown shoes. OK?” and it discusses the topic of pairing these two fashion items together.

Here we have two focus keywords that our blog ultimately centers around:

  1. Black leather jacket
  2. Brown leather shoes

This specific blog post was one that was already posted on the website, and it was still getting tons of traffic because of the strong keywords.

Our team decided to re-energize the post because of this and expand on its existing content by embedding videos, adding more photos, and expanding on our existing ideas.

Google loves freshness.

Take those popular blog posts of yours and sprinkle some extra content on them.

Step 2: Plug your keyword(s) into 5 places on your blog backend

You need to make sure that your keyword(s) are plugged into five essential places on your blog post. Here’s how we did it:

The Slug

Your slug is the URL that everyone will see once your post is active. It is essential that your keyword(s) be plugged into the URL so that Google, and your readers, can easily search and find your post about the topic they are interested about.

Your First Paragraph

You never want to leave your audience in the dark. Your keyword(s) should ideally be plugged into the first paragraph of your copy. This makes it easier for search engines to identify your blog, and easier for readers to understand your content as soon as possible.

Your Alternative Text

Alternative text comes into play when you insert images into your blog post. Search engines don’t actually “see” images - they only see the text that they become labelled with by bloggers like ourselves.

The photos that you use should be relevant and high-quality. Pictures do a great job of catching a reader's attention and breaking up the text in your blog post to ensure lots of white space.

You should be labelling all of your photos with keyword-oriented descriptions as well as your company's name.

This lets search engines categorize our post more easily, and ultimately makes it more accessible to people.

Now, here’s our alternative text under our “Image Details” on Wordpress:

Your SEO Title

One of the more obvious places your keyword(s) should pop up is in your title and your SEO title tag.

Again, just like for our images, you should be including the company’s name and other key phrases that are relevant to your business. For example, some keywords we included in the SEO title was "menswear" to make it nice and easy for search engines and prospective readers to get directed to the blog when searching for these specific things. We've blocked out the client's name in the below visual example of the SEO title we crafted for this blog post:

Your Meta Description

Finally, your meta description should have your keyword(s). The meta description is a 160 character snippet that serves to summarizes your blog content, and gives a quick preview for your readers when they do a Google search.

Step 3: Insert both internal and external links

Both internal and external links are essential for your published content. A blog post is a great opportunity to drive readers to other pages on your website.

An internal link is a clickable link within your blog post that can do this task for you.

Even though great blog content is, well great, you always want to be thinking about your end goal when writing:

Are you trying to sell a product? Are you trying to sell a service?

In this case, we are constantly trying to find unique ways to sell this brands numerous products that consist of high-end suits, shirts, shoes and more.

In this specific blog post, we made sure to link to other website pages where readers could actually buy certain products that we were talking about. For example, we linked the phrase "brown leather belt" when used in the blog post to the E-commerce store where readers could directly purchase one of the store's leather belts if they were interested.

The results?

This blog is ranked as the third most viewed page on this company’s website thanks to its killer SEO.

The blog even appears on the first page of Google for men who want an answer to this classic question.

There you have it.

Don’t let your amazing content go unnoticed. Make it searchable, accessible and Google’s very best friend.

These SEO tips are something everyone should keep in mind when crafting a blog post, but there is much more to the overall process than what we’ve briefly described above.

Our skilled team can put together an SEO strategy for you that matches your business goals and objectives.Get Started With Social Lite Today
