Holiday Party Fail? Your Facebook Event Banner Might Be To Blame

The holidays are filled with parties, but how do you ensure you don't face the embarrassment of a less-than-optimal turnout? Our Facebook event banner template could be the solution to your get-together blues.

According to AdWeek, 50 percent of tickets are sold when you first publish an event, and the remaining half is sold the week of the event. The event title, subtitle, and banner are the only information your friends see when you invite them to an event, so you better make them catchy!

To save you from struggling to meet the rectangular dimensions of the Facebook event banner (785×295 pixels), we've created the below template. Using it is as easy as 1-2-3:

  1. Right-click on the below image and save it to your computer.
  2. Use a photo editing software like Adobe Photoshop or the free online tool, PicMonkey, to upload your own image and edit.
  3. Voilà! A perfectly-sized Facebook event banner.

Event page optimization in a nutshell

1) Add your personal profile as a host once you've created your event from your Facebook page. This will not only allow invitees to see all the other events you've created, but they'll be able to like your page and you can directly message them from your personal profile.

As well, build credibility and rapport for your event by checking the box that says "show guest list" on your event page so people can see who else is going.

2) Your event banner is your first impression—make it count! Not only should you ensure that your banner image is engaging and informative, but you should also upload additional images on your event page to engage invitees and to pique interest.

3) The most important information about your event should come before the "fold." In other words, users shouldn't have to scroll or click the "See More" button to see important event details. A few key things to remember here:

  • If your event has a separate registration website, make sure you include the link at the top of your event details.
  • Third-party event aggregators pick up on any links you include in your event details section and highlight them for their visitors. Make it easy for these aggregators to list your event by including links to your event website, tickets, social media accounts, and any other event links at the end of your details section.
  • If you don't include a map as part of your event, Facebook will not recommend it to others, including people who might be interested in coming to your event, such as friends of your attendees or people in the area.
  • If you don't add an end time, your event will automatically be defaulted to only three hours long.

4) Enable comments on your event wall. This is a great way for people to engage in conversations with event administrators and with each other. Ask questions, respond to comments, and even conduct polls to spark conversation.

Remember, your official announcements will be pushed down the event page by other posts. Build event hype by posting information, updates, and images regularly.

5) Use event hashtags. Not only will these help "brand" your event, but they'll make it easier for you to search the hashtag and see what others are saying about your event. The below example from Gap uses hashtags, a call-to-action, and a link to the Facebook event page.

6) Use Facebook ads for precise targeting. In your Facebook Ads Manager, you can select "Raise attendance at your event" as your campaign objective and insert a link to your Facebook event. You can then monitor your ad performance directly from your event page.

Facebook will allow you to promote any public event, but make sure your event is associated with a Facebook page to have it show up on users' newsfeeds.

7) Share, share, share! Share your event on all of your social media accounts, and reach out to community influencers or bloggers who can help you promote.
